Connection Between Headaches and High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure or hypertension is a serious health condition that invites other health issues also. It develops due to the pressure in the arterial wall increases.
This makes the heart pump the blood more forcefully than normal.
Generally, a person has 120/80 mmHg blood pressure which is considered a normal blood pressure. When the value increases beyond 140/90mmHg, then it is termed as high blood pressure or hypertension.
Unfortunately, hypertension doesn’t show any warning signs and thus it is mandatory to go for regular checkups when you turn 40.
This health issue is also known as a silent killer because of its ability to make one suffer from several other health ailments over a period of time.
Generally, the symptoms shown by high blood pressure go unnoticed, but the commonest one is a headache.
Several studies were done in the past and still going on concluded that the majority of headaches develop due to stress.
It has been assumed that headaches are connected with high BP but at the same time, you cannot say that every sufferer of hypertension will get headaches and vice versa.
However, if you are experiencing headaches on daily basis then it could be a sign of high BP. There are blood vessels underneath the skull and most of the headaches start from there.
A phenomenon called autoregulation happens in these blood vessels and this develops due to the increase in blood pressure. It is a process in which organs decide their own blood provision.
This is a psychological process that causes constriction of the arteries and veins in the skull and thus one experiences a headache.
On the basis of old studies, headache is considered a major symptom of hypertension while new studies said that high BP makes one suffer from fewer headaches.
High blood pressure or hypertension triggers several types of headaches in a person.
Morning headaches, cluster headaches, etc. are triggered by this health concern.
The best way to curb headaches is to prevent your blood pressure from shooting up.
Take your medications on time and follow a healthy diet to stay healthy in spite of having high blood pressure.
