Human Body: Such an Amazing Creation
The human body is a miraculous creation.
It is composed of several systems: the circulatory system, digestive system, endocrine system, integumentary system, lymphatic/immune system, muscular system, nervous system, reproductive system, respiratory system, skeletal system, and urinary system.
Each of these systems has a unique and specific function, and together they perform processes that we take for granted.
When all of the systems are working properly, you experience good health.
But when something happens to one or more of these systems, such as an illness or disease, then the body tries to react and compensate for the problem(s).
Sometimes the body can heal itself, but sometimes it is not able to do so.
Some medical conditions are preventable through vaccinations.
Some medical conditions are unavoidable (the common cold).
Some medical conditions happen just because you get older.
Some conditions occur because of the environment you live or work in.
There are some conditions, such as alcoholism or drug abuse, that cause either an illness or a disease to develop.
Both of these can be described as self-inflicted.
Most illnesses or diseases do not care whether you are male or female.
They do not care how old or how young you are. They do not care what your race, religion, or nationality is. They do not even care that you try to live a healthy life.
Some people are predisposed to an illness or disease because of genetics.
If a close family member was diagnosed with a certain medical condition, then there is a good chance that at some point in your life, you might be diagnosed with the same thing, such as muscular dystrophy, cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a heart condition, etc.
We must be thankful to the medical researchers, scientists, and physicians, who through their diligence and hard work are constantly looking for new treatments and cures for many of the illnesses and diseases that plague us.
In this day and age, there are treatments (medications, therapies, and surgeries) that were not even known 10 or more years ago.
It is amazing to be aware of some of the medical equipment that has been developed to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and diseases (MRI, CT scan, PET scan, Doppler scan), just to name a few.
It is very likely that if you ask anyone who has worked in the medical field for at least 5 years, they will be able to tell you about certain types of advances that they have seen or that some form of a new treatment is close to being made available.
Almost daily, there is an announcement, in the news or on the Internet, that a new drug has been found to give very promising results to treat a certain medical condition.
Another important fact is that surgeons are either improving how certain procedures are done or are developing new ways to treat a medical condition, for example, robotic surgeries.
